A few weeks ago, I went to the area on the east side of the Salton Sea. Photos from Bombay Beach and Salvation Mountain were published, earlier. While Salvation Mountain is on the west side of Slab City, East Jesus in on the — you guessed it — the east side.
According to the Urban Dictionary, ‘east jesus’ is synonymous with ‘the boondocks’ or ‘the middle of nowhere’. While its founder, Charlie Russell, originally came to the area to work at Salvation Mountain, alone side Leonard Knight, the name has no religious connotation. If you just want to see a few pictures, here they are. Everything was shot with an Olympus OMD-EM5. Except for the Volkswagen full of stuffed animals, I used a Sigma 60mm f/2.8 DN. The VW was shot with a M. Zuiko 17mm f/2.8.
